When the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones (SERMIG) receives a Solicitud de Residencia Definitiva from a foreigner, it may grant or reject such a permit. For the cases in which the requested benefit has been rejected, the person will have the option to file the administrative appeals that the legislation establishes for such effects, accompanying new antecedents that support their claim.

Foreigners who are already holders of a Residencia Definitiva permit may eventually require changes in the documentation issued to them. Therefore, there is a procedure that allows correcting names, surnames, RUN, gender and/or nationality in the resolution that grants the Residencia Definitiva.

The Residencia Definitiva is the permit granted by the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones to foreigners who have a valid Residencia Temporal to reside indefinitely and engage in any lawful activity in the country.
