Chilean Citizenship

Chilean citizenship can be obtained by foreigners in the different cases provided for in the legislation. This procedure can be performed online. Those who so wish may also opt to renounce their Chilean citizenship.

People with doubts about their citizenship may apply for a certificate from the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones, which will certify whether or not they have Chilean citizenship.

The Application for a Pronouncement is a power of the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones to declare whether a person is a foreigner or not.

You can opt for Chilean citizenship through a declaration of Option to Chilean Citizenship if you are the child of foreign parents who are in Chile in service of their government or if you are the child of temporary foreigners.

The loss of Chilean citizenship includes the loss of the rights granted by being a Chilean citizen. This can occur either by renunciation of Chilean citizenship or by the loss of it, according to the legislation.

Consular registration of birth abroad allows descendants up to the second degree who were born outside Chile to register Chilean citizenship at the Servicio de Registro Civil.
